Memory card used to store the data(photos, videos, audio). Memory card also known as a flash memory card. Memory card is capable of storing a wide range of data files like audio, video, images, and text documents. Memory cards are commonly used in the electronic devices like digital cameras, mobile photos, laptops, computers and mp3 players.

Once you have formatted your memory card data will delete forever from the memory card and in this case you have to use a tool to recover the data. Every time when you are trying to format your memory card make a proper backup of all your important data for the future recurrence.

2. Format in the Digital Camera

Every camera have different working procedure for memory card formatting, but all of them follow the same way. Put the memory card in the digital camera and switch it on. Open the main menu of the camera and navigate to the format option. Follow the instruction for the formatting and format it.

When you buy a new memory card always format it before using. In this way your memory card will be synchronized with the digital camera. Follow the same procedure when going to use a memory card from one camera to other.

3. Format by using a Computer/Laptop

If you have a card reader then you can use it for the formatting of memory card with the computer or Laptop. If you have not then buy a good card reader that support your memory card. They are not of high cost and easily available in the market.

Connect the memory card with the computer. Your computer will consider your memory card as an external hard drive. Open "My Computer" and double click on the memory card to check for the surety that this is the right drive you are going to format. Now right click on the drive and choose format from the options. Click on the format. A pop up window will open to check whether you want to format it or not. Click on the format and your memory card will be formatted within minute. Depends upon the size of the memory card. After the complete format your memory card will be empty and you can use it for another photo or video storage in your digital camera.
